14 Maoists killed in Sukma

An encounter that broke out in the morning of August 6, Monday, between Maoists and security forces led to the killing of at least 14 Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district. The crackdown took place after the police patrol party launched a search operation in the area within the limits of Konta and Golapalli police station.

Sixteen weapons were also found by the police from the spot. Chhattisgarh police had said earlier this month that the Maoists had released a pamphlet claiming that over the last two years they had lost 247 of their cadres in encounters with security forces.

The security forces were reported to be continuing with their search operations to check the presence of more Naxals in the area.
