The decision to shut down eight airports in India – Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Amritsar, Pathankot, Kullu-Manali, Kangra and Shimla – was withdrawn during the day. Earlier a decision was taken by the government to shut down these airports following the tense situation between India and Pakistan.
The areas along the international border and Line of Control have been placed on high alert since yesterday’s air strike carried out by the Indian Air Force and Pakistan’s reported warnings of retaliation.
Earlier in the day, a decision was taken by the government to shut the airports for three months, though it had been considered to be the maximum limit and might be opened earlier depending on the situation on the ground. The decision was lifted later.
