On Tuesday, the state government directed all state-run schools to abide by this new rule from the new academic session.

Issuing the order, deputy secretary school education Pramod Singh said, “students have to answer the attendance roll calls by saying ‘Jai Hind’ in all 1.22 lakh government schools in the state.” it was reported.

According to state officials, responding with “Yes Sir/Madam” or “Present, please” does not evoke any sense of patriotism, so it was decided to be replaced by “Jai Hind”.

Though Tuesday’s directive does not include private schools, the state school education minister Vijay Shah indicated that subsequent advisory will ask private schools to follow suit.

Earlier, the state government tried this on an experimental basis in the government schools of Satna from October 1 last year. Also, the schools have to sing national anthem and hoist the national flag everyday.

The officials also warned if any school does not agree to follow this norm, stern actions would be taken.
