Two women — aged 20 and 18– from Mathura approached local police to arrange for security after their families objected to their decision to get married. They also threatened to commit suicide if they were separated, it was reported by The Times of India
The women have been in a relationship for the past couple of years and wanted to live together.
Police called the parents of both women and said they were “trying to resolve the issue”. Same sex couples cannot legally marry in India or obtain civil partnership. The law is still under review.
