With rebel Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde moving Supreme Court against the party’s step to disqualify him and 15 other MLAs, Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray too has been preparing to fight the political battle through legal means.
Shinde and his followers have already challenged the rejection of no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Narahari Zirwal. The disqualification plea was filed by the Shiv Sena last week, and the rebel team has asked for directions for Zirwal to not take any action in the matter. The Sena’s legal advisor Devdutt Kamat was quoted saying that the Deputy Speaker has powers to adjudicate in the absence of the Speaker and the concept of two-thirds majority applies only when there is a merger with another party.
Meanwhile, a group of citizens have filed a PIL in Bombay High Court against Eknath Shinde and other rebel Sena MLAs for causing a “political turmoil”, urging the court to ask leaders to get back to work. The rebel MLAs are staying in a Guwahati hotel. There are talks that some MLAs camping there are in touch with Uddhav Thackeray, who are against the rebel team joining hands with the BJP.
