PM Modi to begin his five-day visit to three African countries today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his five-day state visit today to three African countries: Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa.

The Prime Minister will first land at Rwanda, “the first ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister” a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

The next visit to Uganda also marks another “first visit by an Indian Prime Minister” to the country in over 20 years, where he will be engaged from July 24 to 25.

From July 25 to 27 the Prime Minister will attend the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit in South Africa, his final visit.

The MEA statement added, the Prime Minister’s official engagement will focus on bilateral meetings with the respective Presidents of Rwanda and Uganda, delegation-level talks, and meetings with business and the Indian communities.

Prime Minister Modi will visit the Genocide Memorial and participate in an event on “Girinka” (one cow per family), a national social protection scheme of Rwanda initiated by Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

A keynote address will be delivered at the Parliament of Uganda by Prime Minister Modi, a first for any Indian Prime Minister.
