58 persons killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh

At least 58 people have been killed, and 53 others have been injured in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh, an official said on Saturday, it was reported by news agency Press Trust of India.

The deaths were reported mainly from Saharanpur, where 11 people have died, three deaths were reported from Meerut and two others died in Bareilly. Deaths were also reported from Agra, Amethi, Hapur, Banda, Ghaziabad, Mainpuri, Kanpur, Kasganj, Bulandshahr, Kanpur Dehat, Mathura, Rae Bareli, Jalaun, Jaunpur, Baghpat, Pratapgarh, Firozabad, and Muzaffarnagar.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to launch relief operations urgently and also announced ex gratia relief of Rs 4 lakh to each of the families of the deceased.

There has been massive inundation in large parts of the area and power outages in several places owing to bursting of cables and transformers.
