After an hour-long meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said that she had invited the PM for the inauguration of a project in Bengal’s Birbhum after Durga Puja. Banerjee said that she will also try to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah tomorrow.
“The Centre has allotted the world’s largest coal block to West Bengal, and it involves an investment of over Rs 12,500 crore. I have requested the Prime Minister to be present for the inauguration of the project after Durga Puja and Navratri,” Banerjee said. “It was a good meeting,” she said.
She also said she will try to meet Amit Shah if an appointment was given tomorrow as he was travelling right now.

Banerjee said that she had also discussed the huge debt that the state was having to pay, and yet the performance of the state was very good. She placed various demands before the Prime Minister and sought funds under different projects.
About the name change for West Bengal, Banerjee said that she had requested the Prime Minister to speed up the process, and to offer suggestions – if the Centre had any – on a new name for West Bengal “keeping the word Bangla”.
Banerjee refused to comment on political issues and added that this was a “government-to-government” talk and did not involve political issues. She said that she hadn’t discussed the National Register of Citizens (NRC) today.
