BJP may showcause Sovon Chatterjee for visiting Mamata Banerjee, but Mukul sees “nothing wrong”

The Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to showcause new entrant Sovon Chatterjee for visiting Trinamool Congress chief and the state’s chief minister Mamata Banerjee bhai phonta on Tuesday. Further action will be decided based on his reply, it is learnt.

Chatterjee’s visit Mamata Banerjee’s place has evoked mixed reactions from BJP leaders in Bengal. Already there are speculations that this may lead to his re-joining the Trinamool Congress (the party he has been associated with since its inception).

However, Mukul Roy – who joined BJP from Trinamool Congress like Chatterjee – said that, bhai phonta being a “social ceremony”, he sees no political dimension in the visit.

BJP state general secretary Sayantan Basu however, said that Chatterjee was not very active in the party’s work. But his visit to the CM’s place did not mean that he is going to snap ties with the BJP. He however, added that it was up to Chatterjee to decide his own political destiny.

Another senior BJP leader from the state questioned Chatterjee’s allegiance to the BJP since the time he joined the party and additionally questioned his stand on the party’s political ideology.

On the other hand Sovon Chatterjee and Baishakhi Banerjee have earlier said that they were not being given important work in the party.
