North India under grip of biting cold, alert for several states

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for several states of north India due to the intense cold prevailing for the last few days.
The alert has been issued for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and some parts of Chandigarh.
On Saturday, the mercury touched 2.4°C in Delhi resulting in severely reduced visibility due to fog formation and rendering roads inaccessible. Several trains were delayed. On Sunday, the temperature in Delhi rose by 1°C to 3.4°C, four degrees below normal.
The IMD has said that the cold wave will continue in north India till Tuesday. The temperature in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana will remain between 2-4°C. Hisar and Bhatinda in Haryana clocked temperatures in the range of 0.2-0.4°C on Saturday while the temperatures in Rohtak and Chandigarh stayed between 1.5-2.9°C.
Temperature dropped below freezing point in parts of Rajasthan on Saturday. Rajasthan’s Fatehpur recorded -3.5°C on that day. Srinagar experienced the coldest day in 11 years on Saturday at -6.2°C. A portion of the Dal Lake in Srinagar froze as the temperature in the region dropped below zero. The region also faced water shortage as water froze inside the supply lines.
Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Kupwara and Anantnag in Kashmir have also reported subzero temperature. Meanwhile, Ladakh and Leh are experiencing temperature around -19.1°C.
