COVID-19: places of worship can open from June 1, said Mamata Banerjee

All places of worship – for all religions – will be opened in the state from June 1, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday. The Bengal chief minister said this at a press conference at the state administrative headquarters, Nabanna.

Banerjee said that the places of worship however, will have to ensure that social distancing is maintained and sanitising of the premises is done properly. No more than ten persons will be allowed at one time inside. Those in charge of the places of worship must ensure that people entering get their hands sanitised.

She also asked people to clean the area properly before opening them to the public. Places of religious worship have remained closed for several weeks now due to the nation-wide lockdown imposed to control Novel Coronovirus (COVID-19).
