Alok Nath “neither confirms nor denies” Vinta Nanda’s account; says it (rape) must have happened but someone else must have done it

Actor Alok Nath has reacted to the accusations of rape against him that surfaced on Monday after a veteran television writer-producer mentioned her ordeal that took place nearly two decades ago.

The writer-producer, Vinta Nanda did not name Alok Nath, but Twitter and Facebook users identified the actor, mentioned in Nanda’s post as a “Sanskaari (cultured) actor”, and the lead actor of the television series, Tara.

On Tuesday, speaking to ABP News, Alok Nath said: “Neither I am denying this nor do I agree with it. It (rape) must have happened but someone else would have done it. Well, I do not want to talk much about it as for the matter if it has come out, it will be stretched.”

He added that, “…We only have to hear women’s stand because they are considered weak.”

While Alok Nath accepted that Nanda used to a friend, he said whatever success she had achieved was because of him. “Today she said such a big thing. In a way, it was me who made her what she is. It is useless to react on allegations as in today’s world whatever a woman says, only that will be considered. In such a situation, it would be wrong to say anything.”

Vinta Nanda, in a post on Facebook, recalled the horror she faced almost two decades ago during the shooting of Tara for television.

Meanwhile, film body Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) has announced that Alok Nath will be showcaused why he should not be expelled from the film body. CINTAA official Sushant Singh tweeted that he would support Vinta Nanda and urged her to lodge a formal complaint.

Also, during the day, the lead female actor mentioned in Nanda’s post, Navneet Nishant, confirmed she had ended harassment of four years by slapping the lead actor, though she did not name him.
