Bengali film producer Shrikant Mohta was on Thursday arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Kolkata in connection with the Rose Valley chit fund scam.
The CBI went to his Kasba office on Thursday and escorted him to the CGO complex in Salt Lake where he was questioned. There were inconsistencies found in his statements which led to the arrrest, it was said. As per CBI sources, Mohta would be produced in court at Bhuvaneshwar in Odisha on Friday .
According to the CBI, the Rose Valley chief Gautam Kundu had accused Srikant Mohta of money laundering and breach of agreement. As per the agreement Mohta had taken Rs 25 crore from Kundu to show SVF produced newly released and box office hit movies on the Rose Valley Channel. But Mohta had instead given Kundu old and flop movies, he alleged. When he asked for his money to be returned, Mohta had threatened him with names of influential people. In order to investigate the matter Mohta was also summoned a number of times earlier by the investigators.
Sources say, on Wednesday the CBI had an internal meeting in this regard and took the decision to visit his house and office on Thursday.
Around 11 am in the morning the investigators were stopped from entering his Kasba office by the security. Mohta called the Kasba police asking for their assistance . Later after giving a requisition to the police station, the CBI officers started their enquiry. But when Mohta tried to stop the investigation, he was taken to the CGO complex at around 3 pm from where the CBI arrested him.
