BJP MLA stokes controversy, likens Rahul to Ravana and Priyanka to Surpanakha

Hot on the heels of a poster of Rahul Gandhi depicted as Lord Ram surfacing in Patna, Surendra Singh – a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker from the Rohaniya district of Uttar Pradesh has likened the Congress party president to Ravana and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to Surpanakha – evil demons from the Hindu epic Ramayana.

Speaking on Tuesday, the BJP legislator is reported to have said that just as Ravana had sent his sister before the the battle began in Ramayana, Rahul Gandhi is playing out the role of Ravana in the upcoming elections and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is Lord Ram who will save the day.

Calling the Congress party a ‘broken ship’, he said that Modi would once again make the country ‘proud across the world’.
