The body of one of the 15 miners trapped in the illegal rat-hole mine in the Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills was spotted by Navy divers on Thursday. The search for the rest still continues, as per officials of the Indian Navy.
Since December 13, a total of 15 miners have remained trapped in one of the many illegal mines of Meghalaya. Rescue operations are on and over two hundred personnel of the NDRF, Indian Navy, Odisha Fire Services as well as of private German company Kisloskar are engaged in the work, which has proved to be extremely tough so far. Efforts to pump out water have also proved to be challenging.
The body was detected by divers with the help of a underwater remotely operated vehicle, also called UROV which was being used to aid in the search operations.
The body has been pulled up to the mouth of the rat hole and would be taken out of the mine under the supervision of the doctors.
