Congress slams Centre for using ‘Armed forces’ as political tool

After few media channels on Wednesday evening aired footage of surgical strike by Indian Army across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on the intervening night of September 28 and 29 in 2016, Congress on Thursday lashed out at the Centre for using soldiers as a tool of political gains prior to next year’s general election.

During a media interaction, Congress’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said it has become a trend for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to garner votes using surgical strikes since last year’s assembly election in Uttar Pradesh. He also accused Narendra Modi-led government of only raising slogan like ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’ but added that on the ground the government is not bothered about the lives of Army personnel.

He said that surgical strikes were also carried out during the tenure of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government but the government was not resorted to publicise them for political benefits.

Questioning the effectiveness of the surgical strikes, Surjewala said the government has no policy or vision to solve the Pakistan issue which resulted in death of 146 soldiers, 79 terrorist attacks and more than 1600 ceasefire violation in the valley since September 2016.

Earlier, to avenge the Uri attack in September 2016, Indian Army stormed into the other side of the border and destroyed terrorist launch pads across LoC and caused significant causalities.
