Coronavirus in India: second person tested positive, in Kerala

A second person was tested positive with the Coronavirus infection in India. Both cases are in Kerala, as per a release from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. “The patient has a travel history from China,” the Ministry release said on February 2, 2020. The patient has been kept in isolation though the condition was stated to be stable. The first positive case of Coronavirus was confirmed from India on January 30 — that of a student from Wuhan University, a resident of Thrissur.

While the Union Ministry confirmed the case, Kerala health minister KK Shailaja was quoted saying that reports from the National Institute of Virology were awaited. According the minister, a student returned from Wuhan (from the Wuhan University) to India on January 24 and is currently in Alappuza Medical College Hospital. She said the symptoms were “minor” but the state was not taking any chances.

Till now, 304 deaths have been reported from China from the virus and over 14,000 have been infected. It has spread to over 20 countries, including India. A special Air India flight with 330 passengers (323 Indians and seven from the Maldives) landed in Delhi from Wuhan on Sunday. Earlier, the first flight, with 324 Indians reached Delhi on Saturday.
