COVID-19: Don’t panic, hospitalisation low, says Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi has second-highest Omicron cases in the country after Maharashtra.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal today asked people to not panic, as the national capital saw a sharp spike in COVID-19 cases. There is also a large number of Omicron cases – the second-highest in the country after Maharashtra.

“COVID-19 cases are increasing rapidly in Delhi, but there is no need to panic. Only 246 hospital beds were occupied yesterday and all the cases are mild and asymptomatic,” Kejriwal said. He added that data shows that the impact is much less than what it was during the second wave. “As of now, only 82 oxygen beds in hospitals are occupied. Delhi government is prepared with 37,000 beds. I want to tell you that all new cases are with mild symptoms, asymptomatic, so there is no need to panic,” he said.

He gave out data to show that despite the increase in COVID-19 cases, bed occupancy in hospitals is less than one per cent. Delhi recorded a massive spike in infections on Saturday with 2,716 fresh cases – a 51 per cent jump from a day earlier.

Maharashtra has reported 460 Omicron cases, followed by Delhi with 351 infections. Health Ministry data indicates that metros like New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata have seen the highest spike in the number of cases.
