Crowds without masks “cause for concern”: PM Modi

The PM was addressing a virtual meeting with CMs of the Northeast states.

Recent images from hill stations and markets showing crowds with people not wearing masks are a “cause for concern”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday. The PM spoke of the need to continue following COVID-19 protocols to prevent the strike of a third wave. The Prime Minister was addressing a virtual meeting of chief ministers of eight states of the country’s Northeast.

PM Modi highlighted the need for wearing masks when in public, avoiding large gatherings, and ensuring vaccination. “It is true that tourism and businesses have been affected due to coronavirus. But I must say that it is not right to have huge crowds in hill stations and markets without wearing masks,” the Prime Minister said.

On Tuesday, India reported 31,443 new cases over the past 24 hours and 2,000 deaths were reported in the same period. The number of deaths though reflect from 1,400 updated tally from Madhya Pradesh.
