In a shocking move, one of the defence counsel for the accused in the Kathua gang rape and murder case, Assem Sawhney, has been appointed the Additional Advocate General (AAG) by the Jammu and Kashmir government.
Aseem Sawhney, representing one of the accused, was previously deputy advocate general. The present post is an elevation from the earlier position, officially done by the state’s Governor. But he said that his father was representing the accused and that he had not appeared in the case since July 2, reported The Economic Times.
It was also reported that Aseem Sawhney had actually cross examined the witnesses including the father of the eight year old girl who was gangraped and killed. He has also claimed that there is no “conflict of interest” even if he stands appointed as a government lawyer, it was reported.
