The district magistrate of Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur, Sheetal Verma, has warned government staff that their salary won’t be paid if they failed to send pictures of the toilets in their homes to the district panchayat raj officer (DPRO) by May 27, 2018. This is the “novel” idea the DM came up with, in a bid to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aim to stop open defection by October 2, 2018.
The instructions were issued a few days back but it came to the light when the picture of a man sitting on a wooden tool in his toilet went viral on social media.
According to the instructions, the government wanted it’s employees to lead by the example and to inspire others to build toilets in their homes to achieve the target set by the Prime Minister.
Although many supported the move, a large number of government employees also protested it.
