Former CBI chief Ranjit Sinha dies, he was COVID positive

He had tested positive yesterday.

Ranjit Sinha (68), former chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) died early on Friday. He had tested positive for COVID. Sinha was a Bihar cadre IPS (Indian Police Service) officer of the 1974 batch.

He headed the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) force, Railway Protection Force and held senior positions in the CBI before being appointed as the CBI chief in 2012.

He was investigated for allegedly “misusing his power” in an inquiry into a corruption case involving bribes for allocation of coal fields to private firms. Under the Supreme Court’s direction, the CBI registered a case against its own former chief in 2017 to investigate the allegations.
