Heavy to very heavy rainfall alert for Mumbai till Wednesday, normal life affected

Mumbai witnessing relentless downpour, the Maharashtra education minister announced holiday for schools and colleges today.
Mumbai has received the highest rainfall of the season in the past 24 hours. Inundated streets and railway tracks coupled with poor visibility caused traffic snarl in the city in the morning rush hours. Train service also affected the suburban areas. However, no flight has been delayed due to low visibility.
Waterlogging has been reported from several low-lying areas like Dadar, Sion, Parel, Kurla, Vidyavihar, Andheri, Malad and Jogeshwari suburbs. A wall collapsed near Sandhurst Road railway station.
Since Friday, six people died due to heavy rainfall in the Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR). Colaba received 170.6 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours while Santacruz recorded 122 mm downpour in the same period. The neighbouring districts like Palghar, Raigad and some parts in the south Konkan region recorded more than 200 mm rainfall over the past 24 hours.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy to very heavy over the next 72 hours.
