High price of fuel leads people in UP to smuggle fuel from Nepal

With fuel prices across India soaring for last two-and-half weeks, there were reports of smuggling in of petrol and diesel into Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich from Nepal at a cheaper rate.

According to local people, they could save Rs 12-13 per litre by smuggling in diesel and petrol from the neighbouring country. They were seen using cans or driving their vehicles directly to Nepal to get the fuel. (URL, mention reported where)

District Superintendent of Police, Sabha Raj assured stern action would be taken against law violators and the smuggling would be stopped.

Petrol price in Delhi shot up to Rs 78.43 per litre and reached Rs 86.24 a litre in Mumbai. Also, per litre diesel price went up to Rs 69.31 in Delhi and Rs 73.79 in Mumbai.

Yesterday, the natural gas distributor Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) increased the prices pf Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Delhi and adjoining areas by Rs 1.55 per kg while Noida and Ghaziabad had a hike of Rs 1.55 per kg.
