India sees lowest daily COVID-19 rise in 50 days

India reported the lowest daily rise in COVID-19 cases in 50 days with 1.52 lakh fresh infections in the last 24 hours. The country reported 3.29 lakh deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic. There were 3,218 deaths reported since yesterday.

Earlier this month, the country’s daily Coronavirus cases had hit a global record with 4.14 lakh infections per day. The healthcare system was nearly crippled with reported shortage of beds and medical supplies, including medical oxygen. However, following lockdown measures in various states – particularly the areas affected more – increasing vaccination, more medical oxygen supply and medicines, there is a drop in cases over the past couple of weeks.

India has so far administered 21 crore vaccine doses, and another 12 crore doses will be available in June, the government has said.
