Kanhaiya Kumar’s convoy attacked in Bihar, second time in a week

Communist Party of India leader Kanhaiya Kumar’s convoy was attacked on Wednesday while it was passing through Bihar’s Supaul town. This is the second attack on his convoy within a week. Stones were pelted at the convoy, which injured one of the drivers and led to the damage of a vehicle. Kanhaiya Kumar himself was unhurt.

The former student leader of Jawaharlal Nehru University was going to Saharsa district after attending a meeting which is a part of his state-wide Jan Gan Man Yatra campaign in Bihar. It is a campaign against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and will conclude in Patna on February 29.

Kumar has been one of the most vocal critics of the Centre against the CAA, National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR).

Sudhir Kumar Porika, Superintendent of the Special Task Officer, who holds the additional charge of Supawl said that a probe is on to identify the attackers. This is the second time that Kumar’s convoy was attacked. His convoy was attacked on Saturday in Bihar’s Saran district in a similar way.

Congress MLA Shakil Ahmad Khan who was with Kumar blamed the police for negligence. He said that the collector’s residence was less than a kilometre from the spot where the attack took place, and police were deployed in the area. Yet, the miscreants managed to get away with pelting stones and raising slogans in the dark. CPI state secretary Satya Narayan Singh demanded firm action against the miscreants.
