West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that legal action would be taken against hospitals and nursing homes that are refusing to treat patients under the Swasthya Sathi scheme.
Banerjee was speaking at the administrative review meeting in West Midnapore. She asked people to lodge FIRs against hospitals and nursing homes that turn down patients seeking treatment under the government scheme that offers free treatment to those who have registered themselves for it. Licences for these establishments could be cancelled.
Banerjee, at a recent meeting in Nabanna, had mentioned the formation of a committee under chief secretary HK Dwivedi, to find out how to improve implementation of Swasthya Sathi. Many have been alleging that hospitals and nursing homes are turning down patients who want to get treated by availing the government-run scheme.
