Maharashtra farmers to start protest on June 1 for unresolved demands

Maharashtra farmers will launch an agitation across the state from June 1 to fulfil various “unresolved” demands including complete loan waiver and higher milk purchase price.

The decision was taken after farmers held a day-long meeting in Aurangabad. They had earlier demanded from the government to fix the milk purchase rate at Rs.27 per litre and complete loan waiver. But neither demand has been met with.

Last year, farmers came up with the same demands, but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government did not take necessary steps. Around 25,000 farmers had then marched to Mumbai from Nashik protesting against government policies, which eventually led the state promise to fulfil their demands.
