West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) that conducts national examinations for police services, is setting questions in its papers “given by the BJP”, thereby losing its impartiality.
In one of the questions for entry into the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), candidates were asked to write a report on “poll violence in West Bengal” recently.
“UPSC used to be an impartial body but the BJP is setting its questions now. They are asking the BJP’s questions. Even the question on farmers’ protest was politically motivated,” Banerjee said.

The BJP has been alleging that there have been attacks on the party workers from the ruling Trinamool Congress during and after the recent Assembly elections that Trinamool won by a thumping majority. Banerjee has said that the allegations are false and exaggerated that included fake videos and campaigns. A National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) team visited Bengal to look into the allegations last month.
Banerjee had earlier said that a person in the team was a “BJP man”. “An NHRC member has turned out to be a BJP man. He was in the past a frontline ABVP official. I think he has gone by the BJP version in his report,” Banerjee had said on July 22.
Meanwhile the Calcutta High Court, has criticised the Mamata Banerjee government as being in “denial mode” on the violence.
