West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will lead a rally in Kolkata to raise awareness on saving water.
The country is going through an unprecedented water crisis, which has turned acute in some of the drier parts, including Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. The month of June has also been driest in the last five years with a rainfall shortage. The water crisis in Chennai has been particularly harrowing, with people forced to purchase water, and still not getting good quality water. The ground water level has been depleting and people are unable to take out water from wells.
Under the circumstances, there is need for awareness for people to use water judiciously so that even in the areas where the situation is not critical at the moment, can prevent the future from becoming so.
Banerjee today said that she will walk in a rally on July 12 from Jorasanko to Mayo Road. It will be marked as “Save Water Day”.
