After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pulled out of the alliance with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday, state chief minister Mehbooba Mufti sent her resignation to Governor Narinder Nath Vohra.
Earlier, the BJP lawmakers from J&K reached Delhi to talk to BJP party chief Amit Shah.
The BJP had 25 lawmakers and the PDP had 28 lawmakers in the state Assembly. The majority mark in the J&K Assembly is 45.
The rift between the BJP and the PDP is said to have been triggered by the Centre’s decision to lift the ceasefire after Ramzan.
BJP general secretary Ram Madhav said at a press conference in New Delhi that “It has become untenable for the BJP to continue its alliance government in Jammu and Kashmir.” He added that “Terrorism, violence and radicalisation have risen and fundamental rights of the citizens are under danger in the valley. Shujaat Bukhari’s killing is an example.”
Ram Madhav said that the party lawmakers would resign and call for governor’s rule in the state.
