As the BJP government faces the first no-confidence vote tomorrow in its four years’ rule, all BJP lawmakers have been asked to ensure they are all present for the vote in the Lok Sabha.
The BJP and its allies have 315 members in the 535-member Lok Sabha, which is well past the required number 268 that marks the majority. “We have issued a whip for all MPs to be present and vote against the motion, we are confident that all MPs will vote but in case they don’t, there is a whip and required action will be taken,” BJP sources said, it was reported by NDTV. The report said that BJP MPs have been asked to have lunches and dinners together and tomorrow.
There are talks that the BJP is discussing winning support of the AIADMK and Telengana Rashtra Samiti, both two regional parties. But it is still unclear whether or not they will abstain from voting. Position of the Shiv Sena too is unclear as the party has had major rift with the BJP over the past few months. However, according to the latest reports, the Shiv Sena has assured to back the ruling BJP tomorrow.
All these will impact the course the monsoon session of the Parliament will take, and indicate forging of alliances and rifts between bigger and smaller parties in the coming months as they have all started gearing up for the state elections in the coming months and then for the Lok Sabha polls of 2019.
