Omar Abdullah hits out at Mehbooba Mufti for her comment on “militancy”

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Friday slammed People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti for warning the Centre that PDP’s bifurcation could lead to the rise of militancy in the state. Abdullah said breaking of a single party will have no effect in the rise of militancy.
In a series of tweets, the National Conference (NC) vice-president called Mufti’s attempts “desperate” and said under her “most able administration” militancy had returned to the valley.
During the celebrations of the Martyr’s Day earlier in the day, Mufti said if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government tries to break PDP, they have to face dire consequences as she believes it would give rise to militancy in the state. She further added that when the Centre tried to dismiss voting rights of the people in 1987, notorious militants like Salahuddin and Yasin Malik were born.
On June 19, Mehbooba Mufti sent her resignation to the Governor as Jammu and Kashmir chief minister after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pulled out of the alliance with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for what the BJP claimed was for “larger national interest”. Following this, Governor’s rule was imposed in the state.
