Over a hundred farmer organisations join 10-day protest across India demanding complete waiver and implementation of recommendations made by the MS Swaminathan Committee. The All India Kisan Mahasangh – an umbrella organisation of over a hundred farmers’ groups — organised the strike from today.

They accused the government of making false promises as the farmers’ condition has worsened over the past few years. They took to the road in several states including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab.

There was huge deployment of police force where the protests are being staged. Some major bodies like Bharatiya Kisan Sangh stayed away from the protest.
