The Supreme Court of India today told the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that they cannot arrest Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar.
Kumar was however asked to cooperate with the CBI and to sit with the officers in connection with the investigation of the Saradha chit fund scam.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee welcomed the move and said the verdict was in favour of the West Bengal government. Told that the Supreme Court has asked Kumar to appear before the CBI, she said that Kumar had never said he would not cooperate with the investigation. “He has already written five letters,” she said.
She said she was not pleading for just Rajeev Kumar through her dharna, “I am pleading for people all over the country,” she said.
