Jharkhand police investigating into the arrest of a nun from the Missionaries of Charity’s Ranchi branch in connection with child trafficking have found at least 280 instances when the charity failed to provide records of infants from its various centres across the state capital, it was reported.
Police said 450 pregnant women were admitted to different homes of the charity between 2015 and 2018 but those in charge could produce documents of only 170 child births.
An investigating officer told news agencies that they are taking into account all possible perspectives. There are significant discrepancies in the documentation, police said
A nun and a worker were arrested earlier this week by Jharkhand police on the basis of the state’s Child Welfare Committee’s complaint, after the committee found a new born missing from the charity’s shelter in Ranchi.
