Schools in Maharashtra will reopen for all classes from next week, the state’s education minister said today. All schools will have to adhere to Covid protocols, said Varsha Gaikwad, Maharashtra school education minister. “From January 24, classes will re-open for classes 1-12th,” she said.
Last week, state health minister Rajesh Tope had said that there was a demand for the reopening of schools in the state. “There are demands from certain quarters for reopening of schools,” he had said.
Earlier this month, the Maharashtra government had announced the closure of schools in the state till February 15 as the number of coronavirus cases started increasing. There were also a large number of cases of the new Omicron variant.
