Supreme Court refuses to interfere into seven Rohingyas’ deportation to Myanmar

The Supreme Court of India on Thursday refused to interfere into the government decision to deport seven Rohingya Muslims to Myanmar. They are lodged in Silchar Detention Centre in Assam.

On Wednesday, senior advocate Prashant Bhushan had filed an application in an ongoing case related to the deportation of nearly 40,000 Rohingyas. The plea was for an urgent hearing of the case related to the deportation of the seven Rohingyas from Assam.

During the hearing, the Central government told the apex court that Myanmar had accepted the Rohingyas and had agreed to take them back.

The main case is still pending before the court – in which the petitioners have said that they took refuge in India after escaping violence and bloodshed in Myanmar against the community. The seven Rohingyas have been in India since 2012 and have served jail for entering illegally.
