Suvendu Adhikary plays record, says Mamata Banerjee’s chants of “Chandi-path” wrong

Adhikary and Mamata Banerjee are both in Nandigram currently.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s contender from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Nandigram, Suvendu Adhikary, on Wednesday said that Banerjee’s chant of the “Chandi-path” was wrong. At a public meeting in Nandigram today – Banerjee too is in Nandigram currently – Suvendu Adhikary played the mantra that she had chanted and said it was incorrect.

On Tuesday, at a public meeting in Nandigram, Mamata Banerjee had recited passages of “Chandi-path” or chants for the goddess Durga. She had said, “You can’t teach me Hinduism. I know the mantras recited before goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kali and Durga.” Then she chanted a few lines, and said that she knew them by heart and had not memorised a few lines only to mention them at meetings.

On Wednesday, Adhikary played a recording of the chants and then played Mamata Banerjee’s recital. Then he said: “Her Chandi-path is wrong. The mantras are wrongly delivered.”

Adhikary said that he would invite Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath to Nandigram. The saffron-clad CM has been among the BJP’s top campaigners in elections over the past few years. Adhikary said that Yogi can chant the correct mantras.

Banerjee and Adhikary face each other in the Nandigram assembly seat that goes to the polls on April 1. Elections in Bengal start from March 27 and continues till April 29 in eight phases. Results will be out on May 2.
