West Bengal CID arrests four persons in connection with armed rebellion for separate state in north Bengal

West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested four persons from Siliguri’s Naxalbari area — Kandarpa Das, Nirmal Roy, Ratan Adhikary and Dipi Prasad Roy — for alleged involvement with the Greater Coochbehar Liberation Organisation (GLCO) in organising armed movement against the state.
According to CID officials, Nirmal Roy was under the scanner since he had founded an outfit, Greater Coochbehar Liberation organisation (GCLO), to form Kamtapur or Greater Coochbehar state through armed rebellion.
Establishing greater Cooch Behar has been a long-standing demand for a section of people in the region with the inclusion of five districts — North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Cooch Behar. After forming Greater Cooch Behar People’s Association (GCPA) in 1998, there grew a subsequent demand for a separate state.
