Brahmaputra water rises, flood alert issued in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh

China has alerted India about rising water levels in River Tsangpo (Siang in Arunachal Pradesh and Brahmaputra in Assam). This has led to fears of floods in certain areas, Arunachal Pradesh MP, Ninong Ering has told the media.

Officials have said that this was such an unusual situation that China has shared the information with India.

In Arunachal Pradesh, inhabitants of areas adjoining the Siang river have been panicking about a rise in the water levels since Wednesday night.

Officials in India have been analysing the situation and there are indications that it may not be so grave as feared. However, teams had been sent to various flood prone areas with vehicles and boats ready at the vulnerable places.
