Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, COVID positive, hospitalised

He was under treatment at home after testing positive last week.

West Bengal’s former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week, was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata on Tuesday. He was being treated at home after testing Covid positive, but had to be hospitalised as his condition became vulnerable on Tuesday.

His oxygen level was reported to have dropped below 90 per cent this morning, and doctors advised him to get admitted to a hospital. Bhattacharjee, 77, has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and thus doctors are not taking chances.

Initially, he was not willing to be taken to hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 on May 18. His wife Mira Bhattacharjee had also tested positive last week and was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata. She was discharged from the hospital on Monday.
