Conducting operations in “people friendly manner” in Jammu and Kashmir: Indian Army chief

Denying reports of Indian Army and security agencies resorting to brutality in Jammu and Kashmir, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Friday said that security agencies will continue their operations in the state without causing any inconvenience or harm to civilians.

Nine days after Governor’s rule was invoked in Jammu and Kashmir, Rawat reaffirmed they have been carrying out operations “in a very people friendly manner” and only targeting people who are involved in violence or terrorism acts.

Rawat added that soldiers have been carrying out operations strictly following guidelines. He had earlier called the United Nations’ report on Kashmir (alleging human rights violated grossly in the state), as “motivated”.
