It had set off from Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh for Kolkata in West Bengal.

The Indian Coast Guard has rescued all 22 sailors on board a container ship which caught fire in the Bay of Bengal off Haldia coast of West Bengal. The incident took place around midnight. The 22 sailors includes the captain of the container ship, MV SSL.

The fire was the result of an explosion in one of the containers. The Coast Guard immediately deployed a ship from Haldia and a Dornier aircraft from Kolkata for the rescue operation.

The container ship had set off from Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh for Kolkata in West Bengal.
