COVID-19: Trinamool’s Shahid Divas to be virtual meeting this time
Mamata Banerjee announced this on Twitter.
The Trinamool Congress’ annual Shahid Divas meeting on July 21 will be held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The meeting is held every year at Esplanade and is a huge crowd-puller.
Announcing on Twitter her decision to address the meeting on the virtual platform, Banerjee today wrote: “#ShahidDibas on 21st July is a solemn occasion for us to remember our 13 bravehearts who were brutally killed in a politically orchestrated violence back in 1993. We take this occasion every year to pay our respects for their heroic sacrifice. With the blessings of the people of Bengal who have willed us to a landslide victory and a historic third term in government, I will be addressing my brothers and sisters on July 21st #ShahidDibas at 2PM, virtually, owing to the restrictions to curb the pandemic”.
Many had thought earlier that the meeting may be held in Brigade Parade Ground this time, but sources said that Banerjee does not want to take a chance as the COVID-19 situation is relatively under control, and in order to follow the strict guidelines that have been able to contain the virus, she wanted to stick to a virtual address.
