Kashif Jameel, brother of Gorakhpur-based doctor Kafeel Khan – who spent eight months in prison after he was alleged to be responsible for the death of 63 children due to shortage of oxygen in August last year – was shot on Sunday night by unknown assailants just half a kilometre away from chief minister Yogi Aditynath’s residence.
Few men riding a motorcycle allegedly fired at the 34-year-old businessman around 11 pm on Sunday and fled. He was rushed to a private hospital with bullet in the neck, it was reported.
Dr. Khan alleged that critical time had been lost as police forced him to file medico-legal case before his brother’s treatment. Also, he had to ferry his brother from a private hospitals to two government hospitals on police’s insistence.
Ultimately, bullets were removed three hours after the incident took place and he was responding well. Jameel will be under observation for another 48 hours, the doctors said.
Legally, medico-legal case is where criminal offence is suspected when a person brought to hospital with injuries and the doctor who will treat has to register a case to the nearest police station after primary life-saving treatment.
