Indian sprinter Hima Das is not just an ace athlete, but also a caring human being.
Das donated half her salary of the month for the flood victims of Assam. The state has been badly hit by the monsoon floods. Over 15 persons died in the devastating floods that is ravaging Assam and has affected 30 of its 33 districts. Almost the entire Kaziranga National Park has been inundated, causing immense damage to the flora and fauna.
Das claimed her fifth gold of the month as she returned to her favourite 400m competition with a season best timing of 52.09 seconds in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic on Saturday.
Das has not just donated half her salary but has appealed to the people and corporate houses to chip in with their help and contribute to the CM’s relief fund to help the flood-afflicted people of her state. “I have contributed my bit and requesting others also to please help people of Assam”, she said.
“The flood situation in our state, Assam, is very critical. Thirty out of 33 districts are currently affected. I would request big corporates and individuals to kindly come forward and help our state in this difficult situation,” the star athlete tweeted a few days back.
