Union Ministry of Home Affairs, in a letter, has directed all states to not allow any person, including even ministers and officers, to come in close proximity with Prime Minister Narendra Modi without clearance from his own security officials headed by the Special Protection Group (SPG). There is an “all-time high” threat to the PM, the warning has been sent out to all states.
In view of the PM Modi has addressing rallies and holding several roadshows due to the upcoming general election next year, the ministry has requested him to reduce public engagements as it would pose bigger threat to his safety, it was reported.
The ministry is likely to deploy more tactical team commandos with Modi during his visit to states, and has raised concern about the security lapse when a person in West Bengal’s Santiniketan broke through six layers of security to touch PM Modi’s feet last month.
The ministry directed Maoists-hit states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal to arrange for tighter security during the Prime Minister’s visit.
