List prepared by Partha Chatterjee & Subrata Bakshi is final: Mamata Banerjee

Two lists for civic polls led to confusion and disgruntlement.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday cleared all doubts on the controversial lists of candidates released by her party last week.

There were disparities in two lists released and this has led to confusion and disgruntlement among the aspiring candidates. The party has released its candidates’ list for elections in 108 municipalities on February 27. One of these lists had been released after being signed by two senior Trinamool Congress leaders Partha Chatterjee and Subrata Bakshi, and another one was released on the party’s official social media pages, which are said to be handled by the office of Trinamool’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. This had led to talks and speculations about an alleged rift within the top leadership of the party.

The two lists have led to roadblocks and public expression of grievances by several party leaders over the past few days.

Abhishek Banerjee had said in a TV interview on Sunday that the matter was being discussed and would be resolved and announced soon. On Monday, before heading to Uttar Pradesh, party chief Mamata Banerjee announced that the list released by Chatterjee and Bakshi would be considered as “final”.

Meanwhile, Partha Chatterjee said that the matter had been cleared by Mamata Banerjee. He announced the names of leaders who will coordinate matters in each district.
