Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha files nomination for presidential polls

Elections are scheduled on July 18.

Former Union minister Yashwant Sinha today filed his nomination for the presidential elections scheduled on July 18. He is the Opposition’s candidate and will contest against the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) candidate Droupadi Murmu.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Nationalist Congress Party’s Sharad Pawar, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah, Trinamool Congress’ Abhishek Banerjee, were present to support him. Sinha’s name was announced on June 21 as the Opposition parties’ candidate, following which the NDA announced Murmu as its candidate.

Murmu filed her nomination on Friday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and several other top leaders of NDA present. Counting will be done on July 21.
